Comparison of TAM and rational method
A
Rational method: a simplification of reality, gives only peak discharge, not the complete hydrograph.
Assume uniform, steady rainfall, thus may underestimate peak flow.
However, it ignores storage effects, may over-estimate peak flow
TAM: allows variations in rainfall over time to be taken into account, which generates result in a higher peak discharge.estimate not only peak discharge but also the entire hydrograph, useful for systems involving storage.
