Define Abduction
The raising of an arm or leg AWAY from the mid line
Define Abstract
The extract the essence of the idea rather than the literal, realistic or descriptive image
Define accent
Additional force and intensity applied to particular movements or music notes
Define accumulative metre
A regular increase of beats per measure. E.g 1; 1,2; 1,2,3; 1,2,3,4 etc.
Define action and reaction
The law of physics where every action has an equal reaction. An example of this in dance is if the leg is lifted behind, then there will be a displacement of the upper body forward
Define active setting
Place where dance occurs when scenic enhancement moves mechanically or where people actually provide the setting e.g. dancing at a bus stop or shopping centre

Slow, sustained movement quality
Define adduction
The lowering of an arm or leg TOWARDS the midline
Define aerial pathways
Variations of curved and angular air patterns - upwards, downwards, sideways, forwards, backwards

The awareness of beauty of line, shape, colour and texture

Fast, lively, brisk movement quality
Define alignment of the body
The weight safely centred over a base of support in order to maintain balance
Define alignment of the leg
Correct placement of the knee directly over the foot when executing a knee bend or landing from a jump

The linking of two or more movement actions or phrases

The processes of evaluation of the use of choreographic devices by oneself of other choreographers
