What are physical skills?

What is the acronym for physical skills?

What is the acronym ACBCFSST for?

What are the 8 physical skills?
Alignment, coordination, balance, control, flexibility, strength, stamina and transference of weight
Define alignment
The relationship of body parts to other body parts. Correct alignment allows muscles to work efficiently and effectively, and correct use of alignment will allow safe dance practice to occur
Define coordination
Coordination refers to the patterning of different body parts and different relationships. In dance, we can show coordination in so many ways, from a simple plie exercise using arms to a complex hip hop phrase.
Define balance
Balance refers to the ability to maintain perfect equilibrium. It can be performed using different body parts such as balancing on hands or one hand, hip, etc.
Define control
Control can be seen throughout all the actions. It is your ability to sustain muscular control when holding a position in stillness, to slowly moving through from one shape to another, and being very clear about exactly what your body is doing at every moment of your dance.
Define flexibility
Flexibility occurs in muscles, ligaments and joints. Flexibility can be shown in a variety of ways through a variety of joints. Think about the way you could use your head and neck, or your upper spine, your arms in the shoulder joint and the hip socket through different joints of the body.
Define strength
Strength is shown when sustaining movements such as holding a challenging balance or performing movements which need to engage strength through the various muscles such as a handstand.
Define stamina
Stamina relates to your physical fitness. You show stamina when you repeat a demanding activity or perform a sequence of tricks – for example, performing 3 turning jumps/jetés in a row, or turning low to the ground across the full length of space, or moving from the floor and into two leaps quickly then moving back down to floor.
Define transference of weight
Transference of Weight is when a dancer moves from one spatial position to another such as from a high to low position or from right to left sides of the body.
