Q

Diphtheria

A

Caused by corynebacterium diphtheriae
Disease Characteristics
* Cells enter via respiratory system and lodge in the throat and tonsils
* Low fever
* Produces a neuraminidase enzyme which spiiles acetylneuraminic acid of host adding in invasion
* Produces a pseudomembrane lesion
* Lysogenized strains produce a diphtheria toxin inhibiting host protein synthesis

Q

TB

A

Caused by Mycobacterium TB
Disease characteristics
* Evades phagocytic destruction via infection of macrophages
* Infected macrophages allow spread of the disease to the lymphatic system and blood
Primary stage mild or asymptomatic, elicitis host immune repose, orgnaiums are contained within tubercels forming a Ghom complex
Secondary Ghon complex liquefy which allow for the bacteria within to proliferate and spread (galloping consumption
