One dimensional, uncomplicated, embodying a single trait (often for comic relief)

Fits a ‘type’ - Bad guys, Damsel in distress, Jock ect.

Doesn’t change throughout the work

Undergoes permanent change

What are the types of Irony?
Verbal - Says 1 thing but means another
Situational - Discrepance with what happened and what would seem appropriate
Dramatic - Reader knows something character doesn’t
What are the 6 characteristics of an Epic?
(1) the hero is a figure of national or international importance
(2) the setting is vast, covering large areas or distances
(3) the action consists of deeds of great valor or courage (good versus evil)
(4) supernatural forces may intervene at times (to help or hinder)
(5) it is written in an elevated or grand style
(6) the deeds of the hero are usually recounted with objectivity
What are the 7 ways to build suspense?
- a conflict
- precarious situation
- an apparently insoluble problem
- foreshadowing
- a delay
- a see-saw (back and forth action)
- vigil (watching and waiting to see what happens)
