- What is known today as Spain was under Arab control until 1492 and Arab influence can be seen everywhere
- Many of the Spanish words that begin with al- have Arab roots: álgebra, aldea, alguacil, alférez, alcoba… another example is ojalá, which comes from the phrase “may Allah grant.”
- The most famous of those buildings is the mosque of Córdoba, whose architecture and tile decor is typically Arab
