Flucytosine
Griseofluvin
Ciclopirox
Tolnaftate
Flucytosine - MOA
Its metabolite (5-FU) is incorporated into fungal RNA. Interferes with protein synthesis
Flucytosine - indications
Severe fungal infections.
Pneumonia, meningitis, endocarditis and septicemia (Candida and cryptococcus)
Flucytosine is used with which drug and why?
Amphotericin B. Synergistic effect.
When flucytosine is used alone, drug resistance develops rapidly
Flucytosine - adverse effects
Hematologic toxicity
Cardiopulmonary arrest
Griseofluvin - MOA
It is deposited in keratin precursor cells of skin, hair and nails. Disrupts microtubule function and inhibits mitosis of dermatophytes.
Standard treatment for tinea capitis (1 drug)
Griseofluvin
Griseofluvin - adverse effects
Dizziness Insomnia GI bleeding Hepatitis Leukopenia
Griseofluvin - interactions

Skin infections and onychomycosis by dermatophytes, candida, M. furfur
Tolnaftate - indications
Tinea versicolor
Mild dermatophyte skin infections
