Q

What does it mean when the scripture says that God “hardened” someone’s heart?

A

It is not a matter of God hardening someone’s heart against their will; God is simply giving them over to their own desires. If there was mercy in their hearts God would not harden them, but they follow through on their own choices

17
Q

What is happening in 1 Kings with the old prophet?

A

The old prophet was a temptation to the man God, showing that even prophets fall prey to sin. However, just because the old prophet wasn’t punished immediately doesn’t mean he was not punished at all. This is an example of prescription vs description.
