Books of the Bible Flashcards
Why should we not take everything literally in judges?
Prescription vs Description: Prescription tells us what should happen, description tells us what did happen. The book of judges describes wicked actions but does not condone them
Moses’ three sermon themes
- Recounting the past: call to remember Israel’s failings and God’s justice
- Regulations for the present: reminder of God’s law and his love; their position is a result of his righteousness, not theirs
- Impact for the future: blessings and curses laid out; goodness requires obedience and there are repercussions for disobedience
Four leadership lessons from the book of Samuel
- Godly leadership requires a fear of the Lord (Eli’s sons)
