A

Measures any presence of cognitive impairment
score over 24 indicates normal cognitive function
Score less than 9 is severe cognitive impairment
Score between 10 and 18 is moderate cognitive impairment
Score between 19 and 23 are mild cognitive impairment

What do you ask about on the MMSE?

A

Orientate - time, place, person
Register - name 3 objects then get the patient what they are, 1 point for each correct
Attention/ Calculation - count back from 100 in 7s, spell world backwards
Recall - 3 objects from above
Language - name a pencil and watch, repeat no ifs and no buts, follow 3 step command, read and obey ‘close your eyes’, write a sentence, copy a design
