How long should you treat osteomyelitis/arthritis with parental therapy?
4-6 weeks
Criteria for Osteomyelitis and arthritis oral therapy
- Confirmed Osteomyelitis
- Initial clinical response to IV therapy abx
- Suitable oral agent available
- Compliance ensured
What agent is effective against gram negative organisms?
Oral quinolones
What is the purpose of taking rifampin?
- Take it along with abx
- Prevents rise of resistant strains
- good intercellular concentration
- Increases sensitivity of MRSA
What organisms should be covered when treating infectious arthritis?
- S. aureus
- Strep
- Gonococci
