What is the purpose of using hemorrheologic agents?
Improves intermittent claudication
What are the hemorrheologic agents?
- Pentoxifylline (trenta)
- Cilostazol
Pentoxifylline (trenta) MOA
Alters the form of RBC by inhibiting platelet aggregation and increasing the erythrocyte flexibility by inhibiting PDE
Pentoxifylline Contraindications
Recent retinal or cerebral hemorrhage
Pentoxifylline Interactions
Warfarin
Cilostazol MOA
Inhibits PDE III causing inhibition of platelet aggregation
Cilostazol Contraindications
BLACK BOX warning
- Contraindicated in CHF patients
What anti-platelet therapy should you use?
- PLavix (clopidogrel)
