A

OA I me a chronic progressive non inflammatory disorder of the cartilage joints.

What are the signs of a person at risk for osteoarthritis ?

A

No single cause identified for OA

But may be due to..
aging
genetics 
obesity (hip&knee OA)
Decreased estrogen (menopause) 
Overuse of joints or repeated motions overtime leading to damage

Breakdown of cartilage between vibes creating rubbing between bone & bone creating an unalignment & causing crepitition (cracking noise of bone on bone )

Nursing management for OA ?

A
  • Ask about sports and strenuous job ,
  • Encourage rest & joint protection (balancing rest with activity)
  • Encourage nutrition
  • CAMs (yoga, massage, TT)
  • reduce pain (hot& cold applications )
  • improve joint f*n (exercise weight bearing)
  • drug therapy (tylonal or inject corticosteroids)
