Osmosis Flashcards
1
Q
Define osmosis.
A
Osmosis is the movement of water from an area of high water concentration to low water concentration, through a selectively permeable membrane. This process does not require energy input- Alex.P
2
Q
Why are their issues with osmosis, in relation to removing nitrogenous wastes?
A
Too much water may be lost in urine, as it moves to equalise the concentration of the fluid, particularly in terrestrial animals. However, the movement of water may make wastes too dilute for excretion by diffusion, particularly in freshwater environments. - Alex.P
