Osmosis Flashcards
1
Q
What is osmosis?
A
The movement of water from a dilute solution to a concentrated solution across a partially permeable cell membrane.
2
Q
Why do we need osmosis?
A
Cells need water for chemical reactions so water enters and leaves cells through osmosis.
3
Q
A student put red blood cells into the water. Suggest what would happen to the cells.
A
The cell in the water would move into the red blood cell as it has a higher concentration and it will eventually make the cell burst.
4
Q
How are plant root cells adapted for absorbing water from the soil?
A
Long hair like roots to absorb more water as the villus increases the surface area.
