Diffusion Flashcards
What is diffusion?
Diffusion is the net movement of particles from a high to low concentration until they are at equilibrium.
What is respiration?
The chemical reaction that releases energy for the cell.
Where does respiration happen?
Mitochondria - the power house of the cell and used for aerobic respiration.
What is the word equation for respiration?
glucose + oxygen -> energy (ATP) + carbon dioxide + water
What are the waste products during respiration?
C02 and water.
Where does the waste products go?
Carried in the blood and to the lungs to be breathed out.
How does surface area affect the volume of an organism?
The larger an organism the smaller its surface area compared to its volume.
How do you calculate the volume?
WxHxL
How do you find the surface area?
2 lengths x how many sides
oxygen will diffuse into a cell that has a smaller number of o2 than outside of the cell. Why?
Diffusion always goes from a high to a low concentration until at equilibrium. It has a diffusion gradient.
