Osmoregulation Flashcards
What is osmoregulation?
to keep the solute and water level regulated inside of the internal environment of the body (meaning the internal environment has enough water and salt)
What is diffusion?
When something moves from a higher concentration to a lower concentration
Does diffusion use energy?
NO– diffusion is a natural process and does not require the input of energy
What is osmosis?
Diffusion of water molecules from higher concentration to lower concentration (water will move from an area with lots of water compared to salt –> to an area with little water compared to salt)
What organ does osmoregulation?
Kidneys regulate salt and water balance in the body
What body system does osmoregulation?
The excretory system consists of the kidney, bladder, urethra, sweat glands, to regulate water balance and expel excess water in the form of urine and sweat
