What rights do you have under OSHA?

What is the General Duty Clause? Section 5 (a)(1): A) Do you know what’s happening out there? B) Are you taking care of it?
Section A: Every employer must provide their employees with a job and workplace that are safe and free from known dangers
Section B: Employees must follow the rules set by the act. The employer is held responsible for following these rules, except in cases of criminal acts. The employer must ensure that all regulations are followed.

all chemicals will have more uniform pictograms. Some chemicals have QR codes where you can access that information easily. Google SDS attached to the chemicals. Keep in mind that container labeling must be moved if chemical from that container is moved.

Logs must be kept for up to 5 years. Also, workers have the right to view the annually posted summary of the injuries and illnesses each company gets one at the end of the year
Required Training topic: Lockout Tagout
Lock: Place a lock on the machine to keep it off.
Tag: Add a tag to warn others not to turn it on.
Goal: Prevent unexpected start-up and release of hazardous energy.
Required Training topic: Bloodborne pathogens
Mostly found in hospitals serious viruses. Construction workers must wear gloves and practice safety procedures to prevent blood infections.

When should one file a complaint with OSHA?
If you believe a violation of safety or health standards or an imminent danger situation exist in the workplace.
Who can participate in an OSHA inspection? Keep in mind that you should not ask for the warrant.
1)Employee representatives can accompany OSHA inspectors
2) workers can talk to inspectors privately; workers may point out hazardous

What are the employer’s responsibilities under OSHA?
1) Water is a requirement under OSHA 2 gallons per worker/day
2)Provide a workplace free from recognized hazards and comply with OSHA
3)Provide training required by OSHA standard
4) Keep records of injuries and illnesses
5) provide medical exams when required OSHA standards and provide workers access to their exposure and medical records

What is the difference between recordable and reportable?
recordable = minor injury
reportable = beyond first aid such as hospitalization
What are some OSHA standards (horizontal standards particulate to a work operation)
Horizontal standards: apply to any industry or “general” hazard communication, respiratory protection, ladders and stairways hand and power tools, electrical, fall protection.

What is a field operations manual?
OSHA inspectors follow strict rules during inspections. They need permission from the top person on site and must explain why they’re there. If they don’t follow the rules, the fine can be canceled
