Most of the appellation vineyards are in Umbria even though it is shared with Lazio. Most of the wine is made here also.

It is the hilly and volcanic area surrounding the town of Orvieto.
What grapes are used in Orvieto DOC wine? Which is considered of higher quality?
Grechetto and Trebbiano Toscana. The former is considered of higher quality.
What are the two grape varieties of Grechetto?
Grechetto di Orvieto and Grechetto di Todi. They were historically thought to be identical and the DOC rules do not distinguish between them.
By what other name is Grechetto di Todi known?
Grechetto Gentile
If Orvieto wine is labelled “Grechetto” which grapes are used?
If labelled generically “Grechetto” then it is not possible to know which has been used or if it is a blend of both Grechetto grapes.
