Migraine without aura - How many attacks must you have? How long must they last?
- At least 5 attacks.
- Last 4-72 hours.
What is the character of the headache caused by migraine without aura?
- UNILATERAL.
- MODERATE/SEVERE pain.
- PULSATING.
- Aggravated by daily physical activity (ex. walking)
AT LEAST 2 OF THESE.
2 additional symptoms patients may feel when experiencing migraine without aura?
- Nausea/vomiting.
- Photo/ phonophobia.
What may some patients with migraine without aura experience?
May have FACIAL LOCATION PAIN called FACIAL MIGRAINE.
How many attacks of migraine WITH aura must you experience?
RECURRENT attacks, at least 2.
How long do attacks of migraine with aura last?
Last MINUTES
Is migraine with aura unilateral or bilateral?
UNILATERAL
What must a patient with migraine with aura experience?
Fully REVERSIBLE symptoms:
- Visual.
- Retinal.
- Sensory.
- Motor.
- Speech.
- Brainstem.
At least 1 of:
How fast do the symptoms of migraine with aura develop? What happens afterwards?
- Develop GRADUALLY (over more than or equal to 5 mins).
- May be followed by HEADACHE and MIGRAINE
What must the auras be like in migraine with aura? (6)
- At least one aura symptom spreads graually over 5 mins.
- 2 or more aura symptoms occur in succession.
- Each individual symptom lasts 5-60 minutes.
- At least 1 aura symptom is unilateral.
- At least 1 aura symptom is positive.
- Aura is accompanied (or followed within 60 minutes) by headache.
