modern psychology
scientific. aims to describe, control and predict behaviour. cognitive+biological rely on scientific methods such as lab studies to study behaviour. suggests that 20th century and beyond, psychology has established as a science.
subjective data
not all approaches are scientific. humanistic=individual/subjective exp; reject objective. psychodynamic=case studies. cannot be generalised. suggests it may not be useful to study human mind/behaviour.
paradigm
Thomas Kuhn: for subject to be scientific, it must have a paradigm(set of principles, laws, theories, knowledge that all people agree on) psyc is not this as there are many disagreements between approaches. therefore, it is not a science.
