What is the evidence for monoclonal origins of cancer?
A
Mosaicism; tumour cells all have the same x inactivated
Multiple Myeloma; Density of Ig band. Production of monoclonal antibodies. Lack of heterogeneity suggests single call of origin.

How is intra-tumour heterogeneity explained?
A
Natural selection within the tumour microenvironment combined with high genomic instability leads to high variation.

What is the evidence for the tumour micro-environment?
A
RSV causes tumours in chicks but not eggs due to differing microenvironments (Bissell and Dolberg 1984)
