- The holy book and is seen as Word of God

- First five books of the Tenekh
- Moses is believed to have received it on Mount Sinai
- Maimonades’ (Jewish teacher) principles were that the Torah was given in its entirety to Moses and can never be changed
- Reform Jews believe it’s not necessary to take the Torah literally and they should adapt their teaching to the modern world
