origins Flashcards
Everything is composed of “atoms”, which are physically, but not geometrically, indivisible. There’s an empty space between atoms called “intermolecular space”. Atoms are indestructible. They’ve always been in motion, and will always be, in motion.
Atomic Universe Theory
Democritus’s Theory
Atomic Universe
This theory suggests that the over appearance and density of the universe do not change over time, even if the universe is continuously expanding.
Steady State Theory
( This theory says that once inflation starts, it never completely stops. ) Rather, it ends in places, and universes form there.
Eternal Inflation Theory
This theory suggests that the universe undergoes periods of expansion and contraction.
The Oscillating-Universe Theory
Eventually, all the matter in the universe will get hotter and bigger, and eventually collapse in an event called the “Big Crunch”. Then, a new Big Bang Era would occur, presenting a new universe.
The Oscillating-Universe Theory (2)
This theory suggests that the universe began as a single point, then expanded and stretched to grow as large as it is right now — and still expanding!
The Big Bang Theory
This theory suggests that there is a hypothetical collection of potentially diverse universes, each of which would compromise that everything is experimentally accessible by a connected community of observers.
The Multiverse Theory
This Theory states that God created the Universe
The Book of Genesis / Narrative from the book of Genesis
The Creation
- Light and Dark
- Sky and Earth
- Sun, Moon, and Stars
- Land and Plants
- Fish and Birds
- Adam and Eve / Animals and Humans
- God Rests
This states that the solar
system developed out of an
interstellar cloud of dust and
gas, called a nebula .
Nebular Theory
This theory is proposed by James Jeans and Harold Jeffreys in 1918.
The Planetesimals and Tidal Theories / The Tidal Theory
This Theory proposes the historical origin of the solar system as a result of the collision of the sun and a comet.
The Dynamic Encounter Theory / Encounter Hypothesis
This theory was proposed by George Leclere, and Comte De Buffon
Encounter Hypothesis
