Origin of Platelets Flashcards
1
Q
Megakaryoblasts
A
15-50qm in diameter
large ovoid or kidney-shaped nucleus with numerous nucleoli
nucleus becomes highly polyploid
homogenous cytoplasm staining intensely basophillic
2
Q
Megakaryocytes
A
giant cell 35-150qm
irregularly lobulated nucleus, coarse chromatin, no visible nucleoli
numerous mitochondria
well developed rER and extensive Golgi Complex.
3
Q
Mechanism Megakaryocytes (simple)
A
Numerous invaginations of the plasma membrane ramify throughout the cytoplasm, forming the demarcation membranes.
Those areas of the megakaryocyte’s cytoplasm shed platelets, extruding them into the circulation (into sinusoid capillaries)
