Team and Workplace Outcomes?
- They allow the organization to adapt to constant change and need for stability (smaller)…they know who they can turn to
- Teams are related to increased productivity and a sense of empowerment…can give a sense of control and decision making
- Teams link employees and increase loyalty…turnover decreases
Definition of a Team
A small group of “3 to 9” of independent people with complementary skills who are committed to a common purpose, performance goals, and approach for which they hold themselves mutually accountable
What are the elements for effectiveness for a team?
- The breaking point for effectiveness is 10 members. 7 is optimal
- Interdependency…The output of one individual is directly responsible for the teams output
- Commitment to each other and goals
- Mutual accountability…each member holds others accountable
Study Self managed Work Teams What is it? Benefits? Differences?
Take responsibility for their own work, monitor their own performance, and alter their performance strategies as needed to solve problems and adapt to changing conditions.
-Personally contribute to goals of their team and mission
-Ambiguity in job category
-Authority comes from team control.
Reward system is based on team performance
-Increased productivity, qulaity, flexilbity, customer satisfaction.
What is a Virtual Organizational Team?
-Teams work across space, time, and organizational boundaries with links strengthened by webs of communication technologies

Information. Communication. Collaboration
What does the I stand for?
Information- What kinds of documents do we need? Tasks lists, shared calendars, research, projects
What does the C stand for?
Communication- Email? Instant Messaging? Phone conferencing? Formal/Informal. Builds Trust. Video?
What does the second C stnad for?
Collaboration- What are he sizes and functions of your teams? What styles of collaboration are needed? Asynchronous or synchronous? Incorporate both…Asychronous (Discussion boards)
