What are organizational relationship
The formal relationships which appear on a chart.

What is a Line relationship?
The direct relationship between superior and subordinate.
e.g. accounts supervisor and junior accountant
What is a lateral relationship?
The relationship between workers at the same level e.g. sales clerk 1 and sales clerk 2; sales manager and finance manager
What is a staff relationship?
The relationship between a managerial assistant and other areas. The assistant will be able to offer advice to a line manager, however, they have no authority over the line manager actions.
E.g. Legal Advisor and Manager

This exists when a specialist manager is responsible for a specific function within a number of departments.
