Organizational Structure
Defines hierarchy in org and determines the way info flows w/in it
Functional Structure
Traditional, divisions based on specialty
Consisting of senior mgmt, marketing, finance, HR, ops
Centralized, greater bureaucracy, specialist groups answer to top mgmt
Divisional Structure
Groups based on products or projects undertaken
Consisting of CEO w/functional groups like PR, legal finance, biz develp., HR
Decentralized, motivation thru greater decision powers, blending many skil sets/expertise
Matrix Structure
Combo of functional & divisional; divided into depts of specialization and then units w/in those
Organizational Development
Process to enhance effectiveness of org and well-being of members through planned interventions on different scales.
Goals to improve:
productivity
EE satisfaction
Org ability to revitalize/develop over time
Org processes/output
Change Management Initiatives
Focus on changing entire system - crucial!
Link to strategic plan
Use applied behavioral science
Orgs solve own probs
OD Interventions
Appropriate when org experiences M or A w/incompatible culture,
When low trust, high turnover, high stress,
When no ability to manage conflict
Diagnose prob, develop plan, evaluate results - HR a big part
Sensitivity Training
Goal of making ppl more aware of their own goals and prejudices, more sensitive to others and the group
Can be stressful for participants
Quality Management
EEs rethink what they do and become more involved in workplace decision
Org Citizenship
Discretionary behavior not part of EE’s formal job reqs but promotes effective functioning of org
Delphi Method
Qualitative forecasting method to get group to examine issue anonymously and collectively
