Organisation of cells into tissues and organs Flashcards
What are the Basic tissue types in an organ
Epithelium
Connective tissue
Muscle
Nervous Tissue
Nearly all organs are made up of combinations of these 4 types of tissues.
What is the digestive system made up of
Digestive Tract
Associated organs and glands.
What are the 4 basic layers of the gastro-intestinal Tract
- Mucosa 2. Submucosa 3. Muscularis 4. Serosa/Adventitia.
What is a tissue?
Cells with very similar properties come together to form a tissue.
What is the basic structure of the digestive tract
-salivary glands
-liver
-gall bladder
-pancreas
What is the basic structure of the liver
-hepatocytes
-hepatic lobules
-at each corner-portal triad
-central vein
What is the structure of the pancreas
Mixed gland
exocrine portion-serous acini produce digestive juices, proteases, lipases
endocrine portion-islet of langerhans, produce insulin + glucagon
What is the basic structure of the respiratory system
Upper respiratory tract
Trachea
Bronchial Tree
Lungs
What is the organisation of the trachea (from airway lumen outwards)
Respiratory epithelium
pseudo-stratified, ciliated columnar epithelium with goblet cells, lamina propria, hyaline cartilage of tracheal ring.
What is the structure of Bronchi
Large diameter airways, have hyaline cartilage in their wall
What is the structure of Bronchioles
Smaller airways, have no cartilage in their wall, smooth muscle predominates in their wall.
What is the structure of the Kidney
Cortex
Medulla
Main functional unit is Nephron
What is the Medulla made up of
Loop of henle
collecting duct
What is the cortex made up of
Renal corpuscle
Proximal convoluted tubule
Distal convoluted tubule
