Organisation Flashcards
What is the similarity between all cells
Produced by mitotic division from a fertilised egg
All contain the same genes
How does a cell become specialised
Only some genes are expressed in each cell so it can become specialised as the embryo develops
Ensuring each cell gains the necessary characteristic to carry out their functions
What is a tissue
group of similar cells that perform a specific function
Types of tissue
Epithelial tissue
Muscle tissue
plant tissue
Cartilage
Three types of muscle tissue
Smooth
Cardiac
Skeletal
Two types of epithelial tissue
Squamous Epithelium
Ciliated epithelium
What tissue is found in the lungs+ description of it
Squamous epithelium- one cell thick and one single layer
gases can quickly diffuse through tissue
What tissue lines the trachea+ description of it
Ciliated epithelium- made of ciliated epithelial cells + goblet cells
Epithelial- use cilia to sweep mucus away
Goblet- release mucus to trap pathogens
Two type of plant tissue
Xylem
Phloem
What is muscle tissue made of
Muscle fibres - bundles of elongated cells
Where is smooth tissue found
Walls of organs
Where is cardiac tissue found
Heart
Where is skeletal tissue found
Attached to the bone
What is cartilage + function
connective tissue
Acts as a cushion between bones
Provide support to organs
What are organs+ examples
Aggregated tissue working together to carry out a function
Stomach + ears
