Organisation Flashcards
What parts of the body consist of the digestive system?
The digestive system consists of the mouth, osophagus, liver, gallbladder, small intestine, large intestine, stomach
What are the enzymes called that break down fats?
The enzymes that break down fats are called lipase
What helps break down fat before lipase?
Bile helps break down fat
What is the process of bile breaking down fat?
Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder and is secreted in the small intestine, it emulsifiers fat by breaking the large droplets into small droplets with a larger surface area and it also neutralises stomach acid
What is gas exchange?
Gas exchange is the process by which alveoli and the blood exchanges blood via diffusion
How is oxygen transported in gas exchange?
Oxygen is transported by diffusion
What group of cells control heart rate?
Pacemaker cells control heart rate
Where are the pacemaker cells?
Pacemaker cells are in the right atrium
What are the arteries called that supply oxygen to the heart muscles?
Coronary arteries supply oxygen to the heart muscles
Why does the heart need oxygen?
The heart needs oxygen for respiration
What is the leaf’s job in a plant?
The leaf’s job is to produce glucose in photosynthesis
What is needed for a leaf to carry out its function of producing glucose in photosynthesis?
The leaf needs sunlight, water and carbon dioxide
What are the four things plant tissue contains for adaptation?
Plant tissue contains the lower epidermis, spongy mesophyll, palisade mesophyll and the upper epidermis
How is the upper epidermis adapted to carry out its function?
The upper epidermis is thin and transparent to allow more light energy for photosynthesis
How is the palisade mesophyll adapted to carry out its function?
The palisade mesophyll is tightly packed and has lots of chloroplasts for efficient photosynthesis
