Potassium dichromate
Goes orange to green
What’s the 2 tests for aldehydes?

-Fehlings solution (blue to red)
What does Iodoform test for?
Ketones or ethanal
What’s the test for Ketones

- add iodine solution then sodium hydroxide solution
- pale yellow ppt forms
What’s the test for carbonyl compounds
Brady’s reagent ( 2,4 DNPH)
- yellow, orange or red/orange ppt forms
- ppt can be recrystallised to find melting point to identify which carbonyl
Why can carbonyls be easily identifies using their melting points
They have sharp melting points
What’s a test for esters
Add a carbonate compound and it will fizz
