Q

Infared spectroscopy

A

Can be used to identify functional groups. A pair of atoms bonded together are constantly vibrating. Every differnt type of bond has its own natural frequencywhich falls within the infared region.
Infared energy is absorbed by bonds which make the bonds vibrate. The bonds vibrate at tge same frequency as the infra red energy.
