Organelles and what their functions are... Flashcards
What is the function of a Nucleus?
Contains genetic information.
Controls Cellular Activities
What is the function of Cytoplasm?
The jelly-like liquid where all chemical reaction happen. Also allows organelles to move around the cell.
What is the function of a Cell membrane?
It holds the cell together- a thin skin surface layer that forms a partially permeable barrier between the cell contents and the outside of the cell
What is the function of Mitochondria?
This is were aerobic respiration takes place to release energy to the cell. Where most of the cell’s ATP is made
What is the function of the Cell Wall?
Non-living layer outside the cell membrane of certain types of cells composed of cellulose- it supports and protects the cell.
What is the function of a Vacuole?
A large space filled with cell sap (a solution of sugars and salts) that pushes the cytoplasm towards the cell wall.
What is the function of Ribosomes?
It is the site of Protein synthesis.
What is the function of Chloroplasts?
These contain chlorophyll used for photosynthesis. The site of photosynthesis. Found in most plant cells . It isn’t found in the bits of the plant that are not green
What are organelles?
An organelle is a subcellular structure that has one or more specific jobs to perform in the cell.
What are starch grains?
Starch grains are a carbohydrates that store glucose in the plant cell. They are a ‘storage molecule’ in plants
