Factors Affecting enzymes Flashcards
Give 4 things that alter the rate of reaction
Concentration of Enzymes
Concentration of Substrates
Temperature
pH
What is the optimum temperature?
The temperature that the enzyme works best at.
What is the average optimum temp?
37-40 degrees Celsius
THIS IS NOT THE SAME FOR ALL ENZYMES, JUST MOST OF THEM
Draw a graph that show the effect of temperature on enzyme rate of reaction
Analyse the graph
As the enzymes is heated until the optimum temperature, the rise increases the rate of reaction because the enzyme and substrates get more kinetic energy.
More collision = Reaction takes place more frequently
As the temperature passes that of the optimum temperature the proteins (what the enzyme is made from) of the enzymes are heated.
This destroys the active site of the enzyme
Substrate no longer fits
The enzyme is DENATURE (NOT KILLED)
DENATURED
pH
Optimum pH for most enzymes is 7
NOT ALL, MOST
To explain the denaturing through pH just take the explanation of temperature and swap out pH for it.
