Organelle names and functions Flashcards
Cytoplasmic Membrane
PL bilayer & membrane proteins. Separates the inside & outside of cell, control
molecules passing in & out of cell
Cytoplasm
Supports all organelles, serves as medium for chemical reactions
Nucleus
Contains DNA (chromosomes)
Nucleolus
Produces ribosomes
Endoplasmic Reticulum
Traps RNA as it leaves nucleus, meeting place between RNA & Ribosomes
Ribosomes
Translate RNA sequence into aa sequence to complete the primary protein structure
Golgi Apparatus
Activates new proteins
Centrioles
2 tubular structures, conduct mitosis
Mitochondria
Produce most of cells ATP in presence of oxygen (“Power Plant” of cell)
Lysosomes
Bubbles filled with digestive enzymes, break down large particles
Vacuole
Container organelle, contains molecules that a cell stores for later
