Organ Systems Flashcards
What does the CNS comprise of ?
Brain and spinal cord
Function of sensory neurones
Carry info as tiny impulses from receptors to spinal cord and brain
Function of relay neurones
Carry messages from one part of CNS to other
Function of motor neurones
Carry signals from the CNS to effectors
Function of synapses
Where two neurones meet.
Chemical diffuses across the gap and makes next neurones transmit an electrical signal.
Function of reflex arc
Nerve pathway which makes a fast automatic response possible.
What is the effect of drugs on synapses ?
Stimulants - cause more neurotransmitter molecules to diffuse accords the synapse.
Depressants - stop next neurone sending nerve impulses. Bind to receptor molecules it needs to respond to neurotransmitter molecules.
