Injury resulting from streached or torn ligaments

Expansion or outward movement of the muscles
Nervous system
The body’s communication system
Neuron
Functional unit of the nervous system
Peripheral nervous system
Composed of the autonomic and somatic nervous systems
Central nervous system
Consists of the brain and spinal cord
Autonomic nervous system
Automatic functions like breathing etc..
Somatic nervous system
Voluntary actions of the body such as walking or talking
Cardiovascular system
Closed circulatory system that distributes blood throughout the body
Diastolic pressure
Blood pressure after the heart has completed a pumping stroke
Systolic pressure
The blood pressure as the heart is pumping blood into the cardiovascular system
Erythrocytes
Red blood cells that transport oxygen and carbon dioxide
Lymphocytes
A type of white blood cells that helps the body defend itself against bacteria and diseased cells
Alveolar sacs (alveoli)
Small sacs in lungs that exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide in blood
Alimentary tract
Organs from the mouth to the anus
Gastrointestinal tract
Part of the alimentary tract involved in the digestion of food and the absorption of nutrients
Nephron
The functional unit of the kidneys. Removes wastes from blood and produces urine
Endocrine system
A system of organs and glands that secrete hormones into the bloodstream
Hypothalamus
A gland that is the control center of the endocrine system
Estrogen and progesterone
Hormones produced by organs of the female reproductive system
Sperm
Produced by the male reproductive system that fertilizes female eggs
Eustachian tube
Tube that connects the middle ear to the throat. Equalizes the air pressure
Tympanic membrane
The membrane that transmits sound waves to the inner ear
Conjunctiva
The eyelid lining
Lacrimal gland
The gland that produces tears for the eyes
