organ blood flow short Flashcards
basal flow
flow to organ at rest - fasted, resting, normal environment (temp and humidity)
vascular tone
ratio of basal flow: to max flow of organ. lower the basal flow, higher the vascular tone
vasodilator reserve
diff between basal flow and max flow to an organ
local regulation
intrinsic organ ability to regulate own blood flow in absecne of extrinsic factors (neurohormonal)
paracrine hormone
substance released by one cell that acts on another nerby cell by diffusing through interstitial fluid
endocrine hormone
circulates in blood to reach distant target cells
autocrine substances
affect same cell from which they are released
functional sympatholysis
sympathetic on heart - B1 increases HR, A1 vasoconstriction only temp as increased metabolic activity from HR releases vasoactive substances so get vasodilation. Also get in brain as metabolic factors dominate
