What is dacrocytitis/.
Inflammation and infection of the nasolactimal duct.
What is the causative organism of dacrocyrtitis?
Staph aureus.
Presentation of dacrocyrstitis?
Pain and swelling over inferior/medial aspect of the eye
Management of dacrocystitis?
1) Chloramphenicol
2) Oral antibiotics.
Chronic: surgical correction of tear flow.
Orbital cellulitis is a potentially sight threatening infection that develops where?
Behind the orbital septum.
How does orbital cellulitis present?
Unilateral swollen red eye which results in difficult opening the eye.
Painful eye movements., Proptosi
Reduced vision.
Investigation and management of orbital cellulitis/
CT sinus and orbit.
Urgent admission under ENT and opht
Give Ceftriazone, Flucloxacillin and metronidazole.
How does peri-orbital cellulitis differ from orbital cellulitis?
Peri-orbital cellulitis occurs in front of the orbital septum.
In peri-orbital cellulitis there is no proptosi, no reduction and vision and no pain on eye movements.
