Orbit Flashcards
part of the adnexa, the conical boney structure that contains the eyeball and periorbital cone
Boney orbit
Supportive cone like structure that contains the eyeball, extraocular muscles, fat, vessels, nerves and facia reside within the orbit.
Periobital cone
Ligamentous structure that forms the lateral boundary of the boney orbit in cats and dogs.
Orbital ligament
abnormal protrusion of the eye from the orbit. (position abnormal, globe size is normal)
Exopthalmos
abnormal recession of the eye within the orbit
Enophthalmos
Deviation of one or both eyes, so that both eyes are not directed at the same object
Strabismus
Sympathetic denervation to the eye and ocular adnexa. (CS = enopthalmos, ptosis, miosis, protrusion of the third eyelid)
Horner’s Syndrome
congenitally small and malformed globe
Microphthalmos
anterior displacement of the globe such that the eyelids are caught behind the equator of the globe
Proptosis
What nerves travel through the orbital fissure?
CN III, IV, V (ophthalmic branch of trigeminal), VI
Removal of the eye.
Enucleation
removal of the eye and all orbital contents
Exenteration
