Glaucoma Flashcards
Vision loss that occurs due to elevated intraocular pressure and damage to the optic nerve and retina.
Glaucoma
enzyme found in the ciliary body that aids in the production of aqueous humor. Use therapies to inhibit this enzyme.
Carbonic anhydrase
with glaucoma the optic nerve will loss myelin and will be displaced posteriorly, displaying a cupped appearance.
Optic nerve cupping
Enlargement of the globe caused by glaucoma.
Buphthalmos
Fractures of Descemet’s membrane that occur secondary to bupthalmos and stretching of the globe. Subtle white streaks coursing across the cornea.
Haab’s Striae
Refers to an abnormal iridocorneal angel, conformation in which the angel is narrowed or closed. Sheets of abnormal tissue often coat the iridocorneal angle with goniodysgenesis.
Goniodysgenesis
use of a goniolens, applied to the surface of the eye which allows light to bend into the iridocorneal angle and facilitates examination.
Gonioscopy
