Rose Vidaubanaise
‘Le Provencal’, Cotes de Provence, France, 2020 $62
Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, & Mourvèdre
Talking points: After harvest the grapes undergo a cold extraction at various temperatures and lengths of time depending on the varietal, to extract a broader array of aromas. The remaining grapes are vinified using direct pressing which is traditional to rose’s of this region.
Tasting notes: Strawberries, red currants, and melon on the nose. Delicate yet flavorful on the palate, with a long, refreshing finish. Very typical Provence rosé.
Gamay Rose
Edmunds St. John, ‘Bone-Jolly’, California, 2021 $48
100% Gamay
Talking points: Organic! Bone-jolly is a play on words referencing Beaujolais, the region in France that produces Gamay.
Tasting notes: Lively, thirst quenching, and mineral driven, with a bit more structure than a provencal rosé. White peach, nectarine, and strawberry.
Sangiovese
Paolo E Lorenzo Marchionni, Toscano Rosato, Italy, 2018 $84
100% Sangiovese
Talking points: Biodynamic estate run by two brothers who also grow olives and make their own olive oil. 6-9 hour maceration, fermented in cement.
Tasting Notes: Balanced acidity. Floral with notes of raspberry and lemon curd.
Chenin Blanc Blend (Orange Wine)
A.A. Badenhorst, ‘Secateurs Riviera’, Swartland, South Africa, 2021
85% Chenin Blanc, 8% Semillon, 7% Colombard
Talking points: Two cousins practicing organic farming, and making natural wines using traditional methods. Hand harvested grapes.
Tasting notes: A great introductory orange wine, with notes of grapefruit, quince, and spice. Slight tannins and grip, not overly funky.
Pinot Gris (Orange Wine)
Craven, Stellenbosch, South Africa, 2019 $63
100% Pinot Gris
Talking points: Organic, unfined & unfiltered. Great for adventurous white wine drinkers, or rosé fans who want to branch out.
Tasting notes: Medium bodied and grippy. Pomegranate, red apple, and blood orange, with a smoky finish and green-tea tannins. Great with food!
