what is a coronectomy?
remove crown of tooth and leave roots - can be used when roots are close to nerves and surgical removal risks damage to nerve
what is an OAF/OAC
oral antral fistula is a chronic epithelial lined tract communication between maxillary sinus and oral cavity
oral antral communication is an acute communication
extraction can result in communication between sinus and oral cavity
what is the difference between excision and incision?
excision - remove whole lesion
incision - take sample of lesion
what is a mucocele?
damaged minor salivary gland and saliva gets trapped within the gland
-soft bluish swelling and recurrent
what is a ranula?
damage to sublingual salivary gland can result in a radula - large mucocelle in floor of mouth
what is a cyst?
epithelial lined cavities in bone or soft tissue
what is enucleation?
removal of entire cyst
what is marsupialisation?
removal of part of just lining and leaving it open “de-roofing”
what is periradicular surgery?
surgery around the root of the tooth
e.g. failed root canal treatment/non resolving infection, cyst, root fractures
example of preprosthetic surgery
removal of denture induced hyperplasia
TMJ problems
