What are indications for urgent suspicion/ referral of H&N cancer?
A
Persistent unexplained H&N lump for >3 weeks
Unexplained ulceration/ swelling/ induration of oral mucosa >3 weeks
All unexplained red/ mixed red and white patches in oral mucosa persisting for >3 weeks
Persistent hoarseness lasting >3 weeks
Persistent pain in throat or on swallowing lasting >3 weeks

When should you refer swellings?
A
Symptomatic (pain is a feature of salivary gland malignancy)
Abnormal overlying and surrounding mucosa
Increasing in size
“Rubbery” consistency
Trauma from teeth
Unsightly
