the process by which people are given information to enable them to exercise greater degree of control over their own health
e.g. give toothbrush and information…stabalise the disease and prevent its progression

an agreement that there needs to be the same clear messages which are evidence based being shown to patients. key for prevention of disease.

- papers on pre-term babies: mum with gingivitis are more likely than smokers to develop babies with poor oral health
