Bicarbonate + water mouthwash
- 1/2 tsp bicarb powder + glass warm water
- q2h
Artificial salivas
- biotene, oralube
- hourly (post eating)
vaseline/paw paw for lips
room humidifier
Avoid acidic drinks, caffiene, cigarettes, etoh, sugar
reg dental exams

Mouth ulcers
A
SM33
- lignocaine + salicylic acid
- q3h
Kenalog in Orabase
- triamcinalone + carmellose paste
- DAB small amount
- use at NIGHT + 2-3x daily if req
Bonjela
- choline salicylate
- q3-4h
Pregs: bonjela and SM33
Warfarin: Kenalog in orabase (intx with salicylates)
Allergy to salicylates: kenalog in orabase

Cold sore
A
Aciclovir cream 5%
- Zovirax
- q4h while awake for 5 days
- as soon as symptoms dev
Famciclovir oral
- 1500mg stat
- at first sign of symptoms
Idoxuridine with lignocaine
- virasolve
- hourly on day 1, then q4h until lesion clears
- good for MILD attacks
Pregs: Aciclovir top should be okay

Oral thrush
A
Miconazole 2%
- Daktarin Oral Gel
- 1/2 tsp qid until 48 hours after symp clear
1/4tsp for <1yo - Total tx 7-14 days
Nystatin
- Nilstat drops
- 1ml qid
- held in mouth as long as poss, swallow
- until 48 hrs after symp clear
Preg: micon and nystat

Tooth ache
A
Oral analgesics
- para or ibu
- Note: ibu inc bleeding risk if dental proc required
Nyal toothach drops
- ethanol, phenol, benzocaine
- 1-2 drops on cotton bud, apply to cavity of aching tooth for about 1 min
- max qid
