A

Bicarbonate + water mouthwash

  • 1/2 tsp bicarb powder + glass warm water
  • q2h

Artificial salivas

  • biotene, oralube
  • hourly (post eating)

vaseline/paw paw for lips

room humidifier

Avoid acidic drinks, caffiene, cigarettes, etoh, sugar

Mouth ulcers

A

SM33

  • lignocaine + salicylic acid
  • q3h

Kenalog in Orabase

  • triamcinalone + carmellose paste
  • DAB small amount
  • use at NIGHT + 2-3x daily if req

Bonjela

  • choline salicylate
  • q3-4h

Pregs: bonjela and SM33

Warfarin: Kenalog in orabase (intx with salicylates)

Allergy to salicylates: kenalog in orabase

Cold sore

A

Aciclovir cream 5%

  • Zovirax
  • q4h while awake for 5 days
  • as soon as symptoms dev

Famciclovir oral

  • 1500mg stat
  • at first sign of symptoms

Idoxuridine with lignocaine

  • virasolve
  • hourly on day 1, then q4h until lesion clears
  • good for MILD attacks

Pregs: Aciclovir top should be okay

Oral thrush

A

Miconazole 2%

  • Daktarin Oral Gel
  • 1/2 tsp qid until 48 hours after symp clear
    1/4tsp for <1yo
  • Total tx 7-14 days

Nystatin

  • Nilstat drops
  • 1ml qid
  • held in mouth as long as poss, swallow
  • until 48 hrs after symp clear

Preg: micon and nystat

Tooth ache

A

Oral analgesics

  • para or ibu
  • Note: ibu inc bleeding risk if dental proc required

Nyal toothach drops

  • ethanol, phenol, benzocaine
  • 1-2 drops on cotton bud, apply to cavity of aching tooth for about 1 min
  • max qid
