what can be some predisposing factors for oral dysaesthesia?
Deficiencies;
haematinics (iron, folate b12)
zinc
Fungal & viral infections
anxiety & stress
what is one of the main causes of burning mouth syndrome/dysaesthesia?
haematinic deficiency

how do you manage oral dysaesthesia?
explain condition to pt,
assess degree of anxiety
making sure pt can have control over their tx is important
what ANXIOLYTIC (reducing anxiety) medications can be used for management of dysaesthesia?
NORTRIPTYLINE
mirtazepine
vortioxetine
What NEUROPATHIC medications can be used for management of dysaesthesia?
Gabapentin (used for epilepsy + nerve pain)/pregabalin
what are some of the classifications why a patient would present with TMD?
- Joint degeneration (pain on use/rest)
- Internal derangement (locking, dislodging)
- No joint pathology
what are the main views of a pt who seeks tx for TMD?
- wants rid of pain
- dont want to take meds
- dont want to change lifestyle
- dont see any activity which aggravates condition
physical signs in TMD are?
clicking joint
locking with reduction opening
limit mouth opening
tenderness MoM
what parafunctional signs can be present inside the mouth that can suggest the cause of TMD in a pt?
linea alba on buccal mucosa for clenching
what are different managements for TMD?
physiotherapy
acupuncture
clinical psychology
Bite splint
meditation
exercise
