burning/shooting/shocklike sensation,
most common is trigeminal neuralgia
what is oral dysaesthesia?
also known as burning mouth syndrome
pain/burning sensation
altered sensation
perception of dry/excess saliva
common on tongue
mucosa looks normal
What is TMD and its management?
temporomandibular disorder
pain as a result of TMJ and associated structures
- exclude dislocations/direct trauma
No specific cure, more management
meditation,
bite splints
exercise,
warm/cold therapy
what is trigeminal neuralgia and its features + medicine used to treat?
electric shock like pain,
UNILATERAL
short lasting
sometimes has a cause - tumour/MS/blood vessels pressing on the nerve in neurovascular bundle
MRI ESSENTIAL
Medication: Carbamazepine
