Option three Flashcards
Brexit was a biassed decision
Introductory sentence
It’s no question that Scotland overall did not want to leave the EU, but due to England being the larger country they overruled the vote. Many would say this was unfair.
KU point one
“Scotland would be in an unprecedented situation. No other country has been taken out of the EU and its single market against its will.”
A point one
This shows that Scotland was put into a position unfairly due to England overruling the Brexit vote. Scotland is a country itself and should not be put into a situation where many of its citizens’ lives are impacted greatly due to an unfair ruling.
KU point two
To give some evidence to prove the matter, a public survey is key to proving the majority of public opinion.
In a public opinion survey, a majority of 44% of people voted ‘yes’ on the question asking whether they believed Brexit was an unfair ruling or not. Furthermore, 66% voted ‘yes’ on the question asking ‘Do you believe, if Scotland had an independent vote, we (Scotland) would still remain a part of the EU?
Introductory sentence two
It is argued however that a vote is a vote. It is out with a country’s control if it has a larger population than those also in the UK
A point two
With a vast majority agreeing that Brexit was an unfair ruling, this showcases the fact of over 50% believing Scotland would remain in the EU if the vote were independently conducted. This further shows how Brexit was an unfair/ biassed ruling.
KU point three
England has a population of 55.3 million, Scotland has 5.4 million, Wales- 3.1 and Northern Ireland has 1.9. -(
A point three
With a population that is larger than all the other countries combined, it is guaranteed that if England has a vast majority voting the same thing, it’ll win the vote. This is outwith anyone’s control and unfortunately is just the way it’ll be in a UK referendum.
